What is Home Health Care?

Piedmont Home Care is a not-for-profit organization caring for patients in their own homes. Under a physician's plan of care, skilled health care professionals make home visits that may prevent hospitalization or long term care placement.

Who pays for Home Care?

  • Medicare and Medicare HMOs.
  • Medicaid.
  • Private Health Insurance.
  • Workers Compensation.
  • VA/Champus.
  • Individuals/Private Payers.

Who is Eligible for Home Care?

You may be if you meet one or more of these criteria:

  • You are between the ages of newborn and older adult.
  • You are in need of skilled care that only a healthcare professional can provide.
  • You are under a doctor's care.
  • You have Medicare or Medicaid and are homebound.
  • You only leave home for short, infrequent trips to receive medical care and it takes a lot of effort for you to leave your home.

What Can Home Care Provide?

  • Have nurses available by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for questions and home visits while the patient is recovering from an illness or surgery.
  • Provide teaching for the patient and caregiver.
  • Provide physicians with information about how patients are doing when they are unable to visit their offices.
  • Provide information on other community resources and assist with making referrals to them.
  • Assist with personal care needs such as bathing, grooming, and dressing.
  • Assist with ways to make the home more manageable when the patient has limited mobility.
