Historical Overview
Mountain Vista Health Park of Denton owned and operated
a home care agency that was sold in 1986 to Lex Health, Inc., a Davidson
Health Care subsidiary, and Stanly Memorial Hospital. Lex Health, Inc.
and Stanly Memorial Hospital formed a corporation, STANLEX, to purchase
and operate Mountain Vista Health Park as Home Care of the Carolinas.
The
home office was maintained in Stanly County with a branch office in
Davidson County. Together, they served eight counties.
Since the Davidson
County office was growing at such a rapid rate, they applied for
a certificate of need (CON) to open a new home care agency. They were
awarded
the CON,
and on January 1, 1991, Lex Health Inc. D/B/A Piedmont Home Care
(PHC) opened. Stanly Memorial Hospital became sole owner of Home Care
of
the Carolinas.
The two agencies split the eight counties into four
each, leaving PHC to serve Davidson, Davie, Guilford and Forsyth counties.
In 1996, a certificate of need was granted for PHC to serve Randolph and
Rowan counties. PHC is a private, not-for-profit corporation which is
Medicare and Medicaid certified and accredited by the Accreditation Commission
for Health Care (ACHC). PHC provides an array of professional services
including skilled nursing, certified nursing assistants, physical, speech
and occupational therapies, personal care, medical social work, and nutritional
counseling.
